The Federal Government has called on state governments, Local Government Education Authorities and private school owners to enrol in the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System to improve education planning.
Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa said reliable and up-to-date education data is essential for effective policymaking, resource allocation and improving learning outcomes across the country.
The newly launched platform will serve as Nigeria’s central education database, providing real-time information on schools, teachers, learners, classrooms, WASH facilities, electricity supply and other infrastructure.
According to the minister, the system will help governments identify infrastructure gaps, deploy teachers efficiently, monitor enrolment trends and make evidence-based decisions at all levels.
Current data on the platform shows Nigeria has 213,235 schools, but only 124,548 have submitted information, capturing over 40 million learners, nearly 1.2 million teachers and more than 730,000 classrooms.
Alausa acknowledged the support of development partners, including the World Bank, European Union, Norwegian Government and UNICEF, in accelerating the implementation of the project.
He urged private school proprietors to upload their data, assuring them the exercise is not for taxation but to ensure comprehensive national education statistics and better planning for the sector.
