FG to Evacuate More Nigerians from South Africa

The Federal Government has concluded arrangements to evacuate another batch of more than 200 stranded Nigerians from South Africa this week as efforts continue to respond to the recent unrest.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the planned evacuation, while the President of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa said another flight is expected to return about 271 Nigerians to the country.

Community leaders said there have been no verified reports of attacks on Nigerians, although several foreign-owned businesses were looted during protests that disrupted activities across parts of South Africa.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan commended Air Peace for successfully evacuating 533 Nigerians in two humanitarian flights, describing the airline’s intervention as a demonstration of patriotism and compassion.

The senator praised the collaboration between Air Peace and the Federal Government, urging other corporate organisations to emulate the airline’s commitment to humanitarian service and national development.

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri called on the media to avoid inflammatory reporting that could worsen tensions between Nigeria and South Africa, stressing the need for responsible and fact-based coverage.

He also condemned xenophobia, urged Nigerians abroad to respect the cultures of their host communities, and emphasised that diplomacy and mutual respect remain essential to resolving the crisis.
