Radda fulfils N500,000 pledge to NYSC members injured in Katsina fire

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has fulfilled his pledge of N500,000 each to three female members of the National Youth Service Corps who narrowly escaped a fire outbreak at their lodge in Katsina.

The incident occurred at Al-Ilam Islamic College in Kofar Guga, where the corps members were asleep when a mysterious fire engulfed the building.

Reports indicated that other corps members had earlier left the lodge with their belongings that afternoon, unaware that the three victims were still inside the building.

The affected corps members reportedly woke up amid panic as the fire spread through the facility. In an attempt to escape, they jumped from the front of the storey building to the ground floor, leaving behind their personal belongings except the clothes they were wearing.

Following the incident, the Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Ibrahim Saidu, reported the situation to Governor Radda and the NYSC Director-General, Oluseye Olakunle Nafiu.

The NYSC Director-General subsequently approved N250,000 each for the victims to help them recover from the trauma and replace some of their lost belongings.

Governor Radda had earlier pledged an additional N500,000 to each of the victims, a promise he has now fulfilled.

The funds were presented on March 4 by the Chairman of the Katsina State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Surajo Yazeed, at his office in Katsina.

The beneficiaries—Sunday Doowuese Miriam, Abdullahi Amina Dangana, and Bello Aishat Patience—expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government and the NYSC leadership for their prompt support following the incident.
