President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for a three-week vacation in Europe as part of his annual leave, with London, United Kingdom, as his first destination.
The Presidency said the President would combine the break with official duties, describing it as a working vacation. Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu would return to Nigeria after the trip to join preparations for the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said Tinubu would remain actively involved in the affairs of state throughout his absence from the country.
According to Dare, the President would receive daily briefings from ministers, service chiefs and other senior government officials on key national issues. He said the arrangement would ensure continuity in the running of government while Tinubu is away.
Dare described the vacation as well deserved, noting that the President had spent several months handling major national issues and making decisions affecting the economy, security and other sectors.
He also linked the timing of the vacation to the start of the 2027 election campaign season. With about four to five months of intensive campaigning ahead, he said the break would give the President and his administration an opportunity to recharge.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the three-week working vacation and resume his full campaign activities ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.
