Rotary District 9111 plans N723m wellness centre, medical interventions

Rotary District 9111 has unveiled plans to build and equip a N723 million wellness centre as part of its projects for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.

District Governor-Elect, Mrs. Bukola Bakare, announced the initiative during the District Team Learning Seminar for incoming leaders held in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.

Bakare said the district would also carry out a medical intervention programme worth more than N100 million, which will include 100 cataract surgeries and the donation of 5,000 eyeglasses to beneficiaries.

In the education sector, the district plans to train teachers and headteachers, while also rolling out a N50 million empowerment programme for women and youths. Additional initiatives include a N50 million peace project for non-Rotarians, a N30 million public image grant, and N50 million in scholarships under the District Educational and Welfare Endowment Fund.

To fund these programmes, Bakare said the district would organise a fundraising campaign and seek support from Rotary’s global body. She urged members to work together to ensure the success of the initiatives.

She also unveiled her leadership vision, themed “Value, Impact and Legacy,” while reiterating Rotary’s motto of creating lasting impact. Bakare pledged to increase membership of the district’s 81 clubs by 25 per cent during her tenure.

District Governor Prince Henry Akinyele encouraged the incoming leaders to view Rotary leadership as a relay where responsibilities are passed from one leader to another, rather than a competition.

In a virtual message, Rotary International President-Elect Yinka Babalola urged members to focus on transformational leadership and implement projects that create meaningful change in communities.

Participants at the seminar included District Governor-Nominee Samuel Ayetutu, chairman of the planning committee Past Assistant Governor Samson Okenyi, and Past District Governor Bola Oyebade, who facilitated the training session.
