Obi, Kwankwaso Consider NDC Offer Amid Ongoing Coalition Talks

Former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are weighing an offer from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as uncertainty surrounds their current political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC recently indicated that it had opened its platform to both politicians, giving them a two-week window to decide before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for submission of party membership registers.

Obi and Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) respectively, are currently exploring new political pathways after exiting their former parties.

The development comes amid ongoing uncertainty within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where both politicians are awaiting the outcome of legal proceedings that could shape the party’s leadership and future direction.

Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has acknowledged approaches from multiple parties, including the NDC and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), proposing a joint Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket.

The group, however, urged both leaders to remain within the ADC for now, warning against fragmentation within the opposition and alleging attempts to weaken its structure.

Similarly, the Obidient Movement maintained that no decision has been taken on a possible party switch, noting that Obi would await the court’s ruling before making any political move.

The NDC itself has not officially confirmed the widely circulated invitation, with party officials cautioning against misinformation and fake social media accounts.

As coalition talks continue across opposition blocs, both politicians remain central to ongoing negotiations aimed at forming a unified front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
