APC fixes August 22 for legislative primary elections

The All Progressives Congress has scheduled Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to select candidates for four restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states and legislative bye-elections across Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The timetable, signed by APC National Organising Secretary Sulaiman Argungu, followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to restore four previously suppressed constituencies. They are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

The party also listed constituencies for the legislative bye-elections, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe, Disina and Sakwa in Bauchi, Udu in Delta and Dawakin Kudu in Kano. The Gombe federal seat became vacant following the death of lawmaker Tongo Yaya.

According to the schedule, the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms will run from August 18 to 20, with completed forms and supporting documents due by August 20. Screening of aspirants, publication of results and screening appeals will take place on August 21.

The APC has fixed August 22 for the primaries, while election appeals will be heard on August 24. The exercise follows INEC’s restoration of the four Delta and Kogi constituencies after court judgments, ending years in which residents of the affected areas lacked direct representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly.

House of Assembly aspirants are required to pay N1 million for expression of interest and N5 million for nomination, totalling N6 million. House of Representatives aspirants will pay N1 million for expression of interest and N9 million for nomination, bringing their total to N10 million.

The party said female, youth and physically challenged aspirants would pay the full expression of interest fee but only 50 per cent of the prescribed nomination fee. It also directed all aspirants to make their payments in full into the APC’s designated bank account.
