Nigerian Mum killed herself at London Underground station as she faces deportation

Nigerian Mum, Bosede Ajayi, 47, a former nurse from Bexley who had to leave work after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia killed herself after the Home Office told her she would be deported.

Bosede, who was hit by a train at Victoria Underground station on September 10, 2017, after telling her husband she was quickly heading to the shops, was also facing demands for nearly £11,000 from Bexley Council.

Her husband and primary carer, Yemi Osunkoya, broke down at Inner West London Coroner’s Court on Wednesday (August 28) as he recounted having “been through hell”.

A coroner ruled that the mum-of-three took her own life after going through both immigration and financial difficulties.

The court heard that Mrs Ajayi had come to London from Nigeria to work as a nurse legitimately but was forced to quit her job after a number of psychotic episodes between 2006 and 2008, during which she was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

She had been trying to re-register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council after Bexley Council delivered a bill for £10,800 to her home in June 2017, accusing the family of committing fraud, a sum which had been paid out by the council in error but the court heard the tone of the letter was “accusatory and threatening”.
