Inadequate health funding a hindrance – Obasa

A speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa says poor funding for health is hindering the attainment of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO’s) Universal Health Coverage (UHC) target.

Obama said this during the House’s health event organized by the Legislative Advocacy Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL).

Represented by Deputy Speaker Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, Obasa regretted other challenges but stressed that poor funding was a major issue.

He said: “The biggest challenge facing health is lack of adequate financing…

“To solve this problem and achieve Universal Health Coverage, stakeholders have come up with laudable ideas, such as Community-based Health Intervention/Insurance.

“This initiative addresses ‘out-of-pocket payments’ and would alleviate the struggles of our people in the rural areas.

“I salute the determination of the stakeholders to tackle these tormenting problems.”
