COVID-19: Indian parents name newborn ‘Sanitizer’

In a bid to play their part in the fight against COVID-19, an Indian couple named their new born baby Sanitiser.

This move according to Omvir Singh and Preeti Verma – parents of the newborn – will serve as a reminder of the time – and the safety measures we are using in an attempt to stay safe.

“Whenever people will talk of corona, they will remember that it was sanitiser that saved them,” said Mr Singh, from Saharanpur in India, as reported by Kidspot.

“Everyone is fighting against this virus, from our prime minister to ordinary people. This is our contribution.”

They aren’t the first parents to give their child a name associated with coronavirus, after a mum gave birth to twins in lockdown and named them ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’.

Preeti Verma said the names of her little boy and girl would remind her of exactly what was happening during the week of their birth.

She said: “Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits.

“Thus, we thought about these names.”
