Hayatu-Deen Enters ADC Presidential Race, Urges Unity Ahead of Primaries

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has declared his intention to contest for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joining a growing list of aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former banker, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his decision was driven by the need to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges with experienced and empathetic leadership.

Speaking during a television appearance, Hayatu-Deen called on party members to prioritise unity, stressing that cohesion within the ADC would be critical to its chances at the polls.

He said Nigerians are searching for a credible alternative, urging stakeholders to rally together to present a strong and viable option in the next election cycle.

Hayatu-Deen is expected to compete for the party’s ticket alongside notable political figures reportedly eyeing the ADC platform, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi.

Highlighting his credentials, he said his over four decades of experience across the public and private sectors positions him as a capable candidate, citing his involvement in economic reforms, investment initiatives, and institutional turnaround efforts.

He also pointed to rising living costs, insecurity, and currency instability as key issues shaping his ambition, noting that many Nigerians are struggling with daily survival amid increasing economic pressure.

Criticising what he described as a disconnect between government and citizens, Hayatu-Deen said he would offer practical solutions focused on economic stability, improved security, and rebuilding trust in public institutions.
