Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a commanding response to their earlier defeat by beating the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 3-1 in their second pre-WAFCON friendly in Yaoundé.
Three days after losing by a lone goal in the first encounter, the Falcons returned to the Military Stadium determined to rewrite the script. Head Coach Justin Madugu made seven changes to his starting lineup, seeking renewed energy and sharper execution.
Cameroon struck early once again, scoring in the seventh minute and momentarily reviving memories of the previous loss. But this time, Nigeria responded with composure and growing dominance.
Chinwendu Ihezuo restored parity in the 32nd minute, rising highest to head home a cross from Rinsola Babajide. Just before the break, Babajide turned from provider to scorer, reacting quickest in a crowded penalty area to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
Nigeria’s midfield adjustments proved decisive, pressing higher and limiting Cameroon’s attacking options. The Falcons controlled possession better and forced their hosts into less threatening long balls.
In the 64th minute, Captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a dangerous cross into the box, and Michelle Alozie met it with a powerful header to seal the 3-1 victory.
Both teams are using the friendlies to fine-tune preparations for the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, with Nigeria showing clear intent ahead of the continental tournament.
