Voting on VAT, power devolution, to be done by lawmakers

Lawmakers will attempt to review the 1999 Constitution at the National Assembly as they pass votes on 67 bills.

The joint constitution review committee has proposed 67 bills – each on all the items being proposed for amendment.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege presented the report titled “Report of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bills 2022.”

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, did the same at the Green Chambers.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives will vote to either adopt or reject the 67 bills proposed by the Joint Committee in the Report.

A key item to be voted on is the Value Added Tax (VAT), which is in contention between the federal and state governments over who should be collecting it and how it should be shared.
