Osimhen hailed as Turkey’s top striker after derby winner

Victor Osimhen has been praised as the best striker in Turkish football after scoring the decisive goal in Galatasaray’s 1–0 Istanbul derby victory over Besiktas.

The Nigerian forward netted the only goal of the match shortly after the half-hour mark, rising highest to head home and secure victory for Galatasaray in the fiercely contested derby.

Former Besiktas director of football Onder Ozen praised Osimhen’s performance, describing him as the greatest striker in the region.

Speaking on the Neo Spor YouTube channel, he said the forward’s influence went beyond scoring, noting his relentless pressing and ability to disrupt Besiktas’ build-up play.

According to Ozen, Osimhen’s performance in the derby highlighted why he is regarded as a key player for Galatasaray, as he constantly threatened the opposition goal while also breaking down their attacking structure.

The goal continues an impressive run for the striker, who has recorded either a goal or an assist in each of his last eight Turkish Super Lig matches, matching the best scoring streak of his career.

Osimhen has also made an impact in Europe, scoring seven goals in the UEFA Champions League this season ahead of Galatasaray’s Round of 16 clash with Liverpool.

His tally places him among the competition’s leading scorers, alongside players such as Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane, further underlining his growing influence in European football.
