Meet 60-year-old female hunter eagerly waiting to be enlisted in Operation Amotekun

A 60-year-old female hunter in Ibadan, Oyo State has expressed her eagerness to be drafted into the South-West security outfit tagged Operation Amotekun.

Iyabo Okunola, who is a member of Hunters Association of Nigeria, is set to defy the country’s age of retirement in pursuit of her passion to play a part in securing her environment.

The native of Ibadan welcomed the development, noting that the security outfit will complement the effort of the Nigerian Police Force.

Her words, “For me, it is a welcome development. For a long time crime has been on the increase. You hear of robbery and kidnappings every day and you begin to wonder what is happening. The police are doing a lot but they are not enough and they do not know the terrain as much as we do.

“Those of us hunting the game know the forests. A Fulani herdsman cannot claim to know the forests in Ibadan as well as I do because I was born here and I have been hunting for long in Ibadan forests.

“I love to be part of the team because wherever there are hunters, there is safety and security. Hunters are pure at heart and are very brave and committed. I think I merit it since I have what it takes to join the team. This is history in the making and I want to be part of those making history in guiding and protecting Oyo State,” she added.
