The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of five million votes in the 2027 general election, urging party leaders to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, improve campaign coordination and promote unity. State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi announced the target at the party’s campaign council retreat at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking at the retreat, themed “The Road to the Ballot: One Team, One Strategy,” Ojelabi said the party must convert its political structures and support base into electoral victories through effective communication, disciplined organisation and accountability. He added that leaders at the local government, Local Council Development Area, ward and polling-unit levels would be assessed on their contributions to electoral performance.
Ojelabi also urged members to improve engagement with residents and communicate government policies and achievements more effectively. He warned against taking supporters’ loyalty for granted, stressing that reaching the five-million-vote target would require sustained voter mobilisation and regular assessments of the party’s strengths and weaknesses.
The Director-General of the Lagos APC PBAT/KOH Campaign Council, Musiliu Obanikoro, described the retreat as an opportunity to align the party’s political vision with practical campaign strategies. He called on leaders to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and prioritise the party’s collective interests over personal ambitions.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda urged members to unite behind the party’s candidates, including President Bola Tinubu, Deputy Governor and governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat, and candidates for legislative positions. He cautioned against selective voting and called for reconciliation among aggrieved members, alongside the early appointment and verification of polling-unit agents.
Yilwatda also urged the party to explain the benefits of federal tax reforms and major infrastructure projects to Nigerians. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu encouraged members to remain committed despite political challenges, praising Yilwatda’s loyalty and urging participants to return to their communities to promote the party’s message and achievements.
Hamzat, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of data-driven planning and measurable governance, citing the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency as an initiative to improve demographic data collection. He also outlined investments in transportation, water supply, drainage, waste management and electricity, saying infrastructure development and tangible improvements in residents’ lives should remain central to the state’s priorities.
