Jonathan urges Ijaw leaders to shun divisive politics

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has admonished leaders and stakeholders of the Ijaw nation to embrace love and unity while shunning divisiveness for the collective interest of the Ijaw people in Nigeria.

Jonathan made the call when the national executive members of the Ijaw National Congress, accompanied by the Central Zone officials of the Ijaw Youth Council, paid him a visit at his office in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday.

He opined that the relevance of the Ijaw ethnic nationality as a minority group is being threatened because they are not existing within one location, except in Bayelsa State where their homogeneity is better pronounced.

He, therefore, urged well-positioned Ijaw sons and daughters to sacrifice for their people and place collective interest above personal gains, stressing that differences among the Ijaw should not jeopardise their unity.
