EU, Oxfam empower 40,000 Adamawa households

No fewer than 40,000 households in Adamawa benefited from a programme organised by a joint collaboration of the European Union (EU), Oxfam International and Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN).

The partnership which was aimed to implement the Pro-Resilience Action (PROACT) Project, urged leaders of benefiting communities and governments to sustain the programme so that its benefits will endure.

Mr Constant Tchona, Country Director of Oxfam International, who spoke at the closing ceremony of the project, urged the Adamawa State government and chairmen of the nine local government areas that benefited from the programme to continue to advance its models and successes through their policies and budgets.

The Pro-Resilience Action project, simply called PROACT, has been implemented in Adamawa State in the past 60 months in different components, and has been targeted mainly at improving food security and overall livelihood of vulnerable households in disaster and conflict-affected communities.

Constant Tchona assured that the project would continue to offer its technical and mentorship support to community partners and government, adding that the project was closing down at the end of its official implementation period.

“The project has been able to reach over 40,000 households from across the four focal local government areas of Song, Fufore, Mubi South and Guyuk, and the five replication local government areas of Gombi, Hong, Maiha, Mayo-Belwa and Numan, doing our best directing livelihood strategies and social protection interventions to the most vulnerable population in these LGAs,” Tchona said
