Buhari calls for Support for AFLPM

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has called on other African countries to support the initiative of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) to attain a more stable continent.

The President, who was the special guest of honor, said this at the 9th General Assembly of the AFLPM in the State House Conference Hall in Abuja.

He also pledged Nigeria’s commitment to the mission and called on other stakeholders on the continent to support the First Ladies’ Peace Mission to build a peaceful society.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome African first ladies to Nigeria, for the 9th General Assembly of the African First Ladies Peace Mission. The importance of this assembly lies in the fact that peace has become an elusive subject that affects development in many regions of Africa.

“The activities of insurgents and banditry have led to more widespread displacement and poverty. It is not in doubt that women and children are the worst affected by the breakdown of peace. Therefore, as mothers, I believe, you are in a better position to drive the processes of peace and actions where necessary.”

The 9th AFLPM General Assembly unanimously elected the Nigerian First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari as the new president.
