Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, has denied any connection to the recent seizure of gold bars by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, describing reports linking him to the incident as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe, the former Zamfara State governor said he had “absolutely no connection whatsoever” with the gold seizure.
The statement noted that the EFCC did not identify Yari among those arrested or under investigation, arguing that his name was absent from the commission’s official statement on the operation.
According to the statement, the allegations were part of a coordinated smear campaign by political opponents seeking to damage the senator’s reputation and weaken his growing political influence.
It further claimed that Yari’s critics were uncomfortable with his national political relevance and his relationship with President Bola Tinubu.
The statement maintained that Yari remains focused on representing the people of Zamfara West and supporting the Federal Government’s development agenda.
The senator also threatened legal action against individuals, groups and media organisations responsible for publishing and circulating the allegations.
His legal team, the statement added, has been directed to begin legal proceedings against those involved in what was described as defamatory publications.
Yari urged the public to disregard the reports, insisting they lacked factual basis and would not affect his public standing or record of service.
