The Independent National Electoral Commission has decided to publish the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections online following concerns from Nigerians and other stakeholders about access to the document.
INEC announced the decision on Monday, explaining that the register had earlier been displayed physically at registration areas nationwide from October 9 to 15. The online publication is intended to complement the physical exercise and allow more Nigerians to check their voter details.
Chairman of the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the move was aimed at promoting transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process. The register is available on the commission’s online platform at display.inecnigeria.org.
The commission said the physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026. The exercise allowed registered voters to verify their information and submit claims or objections regarding entries in the preliminary register.
INEC explained that it was processing the claims and objections received during the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register. The commission said the process would be carried out in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The final register of voters is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commission said the timeline would allow it to address issues arising from the preliminary register before finalising the document.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process, thanking Nigerians and other stakeholders for their engagement. It also assured the public that it would implement the Electoral Act, 2026, in its efforts to deliver credible elections.
