Nigeria–UK Trade Hits £8.1bn as FAAN Eyes Export Expansion

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says Nigeria’s export potential to the United Kingdom is set to grow further, driven by rising trade volumes and aviation sector reforms.

Speaking at a forum organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, said Nigeria–UK trade reached £8.1 billion, representing an 11.4 per cent year-on-year increase.

She noted that UK imports from Nigeria currently stand at £2.4 billion, adding that even a 1–5 per cent rise in exports could generate an additional $25 million to $125 million in revenue.

Kuku, who was represented by FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Lekan Thomas, said the UK’s tariff concessions on over 3,000 Nigerian products present fresh opportunities for exporters, particularly in agriculture and manufacturing.

She added that ongoing aviation reforms under the Federal Government, alongside renewed investor confidence, are strengthening Nigeria’s trade and cargo capacity.

According to her, FAAN is investing in infrastructure upgrades and digital cargo systems to position Nigeria as a key air freight hub in Africa and expand export-driven growth.
