Tinubu Replaces Edun with Oyedele in Fresh Cabinet Shake-Up

President Bola Tinubu has replaced Adebayo Olawale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his successor in a new cabinet reshuffle.

Oyedele, who was recently sworn in as Minister of State for Finance, now steps into the top role following Edun’s exit after 32 months in office.

The reshuffle also saw the removal of Housing and Urban Development Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, with Muttaqha Rabe Darma nominated as his replacement, subject to Senate confirmation.

Announcing the changes, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume said the move was aimed at strengthening coordination in government and improving economic delivery under the administration’s policy agenda.

Edun has been directed to hand over to Oyedele, while Dangiwa will transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, pending the confirmation of his successor.

Reflecting on his tenure, Edun thanked the President for the opportunity to serve, noting that his time in office focused on stabilising the economy and laying the groundwork for long-term growth.

He said reforms implemented during his tenure contributed to improved economic indicators, including growth rising above four per cent and inflation easing from previous highs.

Dangiwa also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve, highlighting progress in housing reforms, including initiatives to expand access to affordable housing and strengthen partnerships within the sector.

The Presidency said the reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the administration for improved performance, adding that further adjustments may follow as part of a broader strategy to reinvigorate governance.
