Atiku’s Son Defects to APC, Backs Tinubu 2027 Bid

Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The announcement was made Thursday at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Popularly known as “Abba,” he was received by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and key APC leaders from the North-East. Abba directed all coordinators and members of his former political structure, the Haske Atiku Organisation, to join APC immediately and mobilise support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“My decision to join APC is based on ideology and the leadership style I admire in President Tinubu,” Abba said. “I will work with Senator Barau to actualise the second-term bid of the President.” The group also formally renamed their platform the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, marking a full political realignment.

APC North-East Vice Chairman Mustapha Salihu described the defection as symbolic and far-reaching, signalling a new phase of “politics without borders.” Deputy Senate President Jibrin and presidential aide Alhaji Mahmoud Abdullahi assured Abba of full support and opportunities within the party.

Kano State Coordinator Mubarak Musa said the group would double efforts to deliver for APC in 2027. Observers see the defection as both a strategic blow to Atiku’s presidential ambitions and a boost for APC’s consolidation in the North-East.
