The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a fake university in Imeke, Olorunda LCDA of Lagos State, where operators allegedly admitted students into unaccredited programmes, including Nursing, and compelled them to participate in a Ponzi scheme.
During the operation, six suspects were arrested while 107 students were rescued from the illegal institution. The Lagos State Command of the NSCDC said the raid was carried out on July 20 following intelligence on the school’s activities.
NSCDC spokesperson Oluwaseun Abolurin said the suspects, aged between 24 and 31, would be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation and prosecution, alongside exhibits recovered from the premises.
Lagos State Commandant Adedotun Keshinro warned prospective students against accepting suspicious admission offers, stressing that fraudsters often exploit desperation for university admission to run criminal schemes.
In separate operations, the NSCDC arrested 12 additional suspects linked to illegal migration, human trafficking, Ponzi schemes, cross-border crimes and vandalism. The command also rescued 10 Cameroonian nationals who were allegedly trafficked into Nigeria.
According to the NSCDC, suspects connected to illegal migration will be transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action, while one Cameroonian and three foreign nationals were arrested for offences related to illegal entry and fraudulent schemes.
The command also disclosed that seven suspects, including five minors aged between 12 and 16, have been prosecuted for vandalising public school facilities in Ibereko, Badagry, warning that attacks on educational infrastructure will not be tolerated.
