Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to seek federal backing for his administration’s security and infrastructure priorities.
The closed-door meeting, held on Monday, focused on worsening insecurity in parts of Kano State, major development projects and the need for closer collaboration between the state and the Federal Government, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf briefed the President on recent security challenges, including the killing of a housewife and her children, and stressed the urgency of stronger federal support to protect lives and restore public confidence. He highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies.
“The governor emphasised the need for deeper collaboration with federal security institutions to address insecurity and safeguard innocent citizens,” the statement said.
Beyond security, Yusuf outlined Kano’s development agenda, with particular attention to mega infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic activity and job creation across the state.
He also thanked President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, describing it as critical to unlocking economic growth. Yusuf appealed for continued federal cooperation to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure Kano benefits fully from national programmes.
President Tinubu, according to the statement, assured the governor of the Federal Government’s readiness to work with Kano State to tackle security challenges and support sustainable development initiatives.
The meeting came amid speculation about Yusuf’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress, following comments by the Kano State APC chairman suggesting the governor might soon join the ruling party, a development neither Yusuf nor the Presidency addressed after the meeting.
