Revolution Now: Presidency commends Nigerians for protecting democracy

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the many Nigerians who ignored the RevolutionNow protest advocacy call have fought to protect Nigerian democracy.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari commended the millions of citizens who went about their daily activities instead of joining in the protest.

The statement reads, “Today, millions of Nigerians went about their businesses: work, seeking employment, attending schools/colleges and caring for their families. By doing so, the millions defended our country’s hard-won democratic rights – by ignoring calls on social media to join a phantom ‘revolution’.”

“The President is humbled by the support – not for himself, or the governing party – but for the democratic values of modern-day Nigeria through the wisdom of those millions of citizens who preferred democracy and decided not to undermine an elected government.

The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria had urged the Nigerian citizenry to embark on a revolutionary protest nationwide against the sitting president for supposedly failing to deliver in his position.
