Police, Burna Boy Explore Music To Restore Trust

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu and Afrobeats star Burna Boy have discussed using music and entertainment to improve trust between the Nigeria Police Force and young Nigerians.

The engagement comes amid longstanding concerns about public confidence in the police, particularly among young people. The Force said the proposed collaboration is intended to strengthen police-community relations and create more opportunities for dialogue.

Burna Boy reportedly backed the initiative and offered to support efforts to bridge the gap between the police and younger Nigerians.

Disu said the police were exploring partnerships beyond conventional policing, including with influential figures in entertainment, media, civil society and youth organisations. He noted that young Nigerians form a significant part of the population and strongly influence public opinion through social media and popular culture.

According to the Force, involving the entertainment industry could provide new channels for public awareness, community outreach and campaigns promoting responsible citizenship.

Police officials said the partnership could also help address misconceptions about the Force and encourage greater engagement between officers and the communities they serve.

The discussions form part of broader efforts by the police leadership to improve public confidence and strengthen relationships with Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, through approaches that extend beyond traditional policing.
