One person has died and three men have been rescued alive after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Akinola Street, off Ikorodu Road, Fadeyi, Lagos, early Friday.
Emergency responders were still searching for possible survivors trapped beneath the rubble as of 3:33am. An excavator was deployed to clear debris and support the rescue operation.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, which coordinated the response, said the cause of the collapse had not been established. The building was reportedly under construction when the incident occurred.
Several agencies participated in the operation, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emergency medical personnel and the police.
Other responders included the Lagos Response Unit and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, which supported emergency operations at the scene.
Emergency officials worked to clear the rubble, manage the affected area and coordinate the activities of the different agencies involved in the search and rescue effort.
The operation continued as responders sought to determine whether more workers were trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Authorities had yet to announce the final outcome of the search or establish what caused the building to collapse.
