Obasanjo Leads 100 Seniors on Keep-Fit Walk

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo led about 100 senior citizens on a 2.5-kilometre keep-fit walk in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday.

The exercise was organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Senior Citizens Club as part of its regular keep-fit programme.

Obasanjo, who is a member of the club, said the initiative was designed to encourage older people to remain physically active and prioritise their wellbeing as they age.

He noted that membership of the club is open to people aged 70 and above, describing the participants as “young papas and mamas” and stressing the importance of growing old gracefully while remaining active.

The former President also pointed to some elderly participants, including a 90-year-old member, as examples of the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle.

The club’s President, retired Group Captain Ayobamiji Erinfolami, commended Obasanjo for leading by example and demonstrating commitment to the welfare of senior citizens.

Obasanjo’s aide, Elder Udo Umoren, described the exercise as a source of motivation and encouragement for the elderly, saying activities like the walk could help them remain active as they grow older.
