The Nigeria Democratic Congress has appealed the Federal High Court judgment that nullified its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission and has also filed an application for a stay of execution.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the NDC remains a legally recognised political party pending the outcome of the appeal and is taking all necessary legal steps to protect its status.
The Lokoja Federal High Court had ordered INEC to reverse the party’s registration, raising concerns about its participation in preparations for the 2027 general election.
Meanwhile, the Obidient Movement accused the Federal Government and the judiciary of attempting to frustrate the opposition ahead of the polls.
National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, alleged that the court judgment was politically motivated and intended to stop Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from contesting the 2027 presidential election under the NDC platform.
The movement argued that continued political interference in the judiciary could undermine public confidence in the courts and threaten Nigeria’s democracy.
It also accused the ruling APC of using state institutions to weaken opposition parties, claiming the growing coalition around the NDC had unsettled the governing party.
The Obidient Movement urged its supporters to remain peaceful, insisting that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would be on the ballot in the 2027 general election.
