National Assembly Should Validate Existing LCDAs – Eredo LCDA Chair

The Executive Chairman, Eredo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Adeniyi Saliu has commended the Federal Government’s directive that would enable Local Governments be financially autonomous.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari directed that funds for local government councils should be paid directly to their accounts as against paying through the state government.

Speaking in an interview, Saliu said the third tier of government functions efficiently when afforded autonomy.

According to him, “Local governments function better when they are able to take initiatives in terms of financial autonomy, political autonomy and administrative autonomy. What we have now is financial autonomy.”

He added that the decision taken by past Lagos State Government to allow the Local Government function, has ensure pacy development when compared to other states that have done otherwise.

He called on the National Assembly to validate existing templates such Local Council Development Areas created to bring government closer to the grassroot.

His words, “I want to unequivocally call on the National Assembly of APC members that are dominant there to take steps in ensuring that LCDAs that have been created by the some state governments are upgraded and made full-fledge local governments.”
