Messi end trophy international drought, wins first Copa America

Lionel Messi has won his first major international title as Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final in Maracana stadium.

Argentina’s victory over its South American rival ended a 28-year trophyless spell.

Messi, 34, was named player of the tournament after his four goals in the competition.

Angel di Maria finish sealed the victory, courtesy of Rodrigo de Paul’s lofted pass.

Unlike Messi, Brazil’s number 10 and former Barcelona team-mate Neymar sank to his knees in tears at the final whistle, as his pursuit of international success continues, having missed Brazil’s 2019 Copa win through injury.
