Governor Seyi Makinde has imposed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of Oyo State following the recent abduction of pupils near the Old Oyo National Park.
A memo signed by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, said the restriction takes effect today.
The curfew will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.
The measure affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, which authorities believe require heightened security surveillance.
The affected councils are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan.
The state government said the temporary restriction is aimed at strengthening security operations and preventing further attacks in the affected communities.
