The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to accelerate the delivery of strategic infrastructure projects as it targets growing the state’s economy from about $84 billion to between $800 billion and $1 trillion by 2052.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, said stronger project monitoring would help ensure infrastructure projects are completed on schedule, public funds are efficiently utilised and the targets of the Lagos State Development Plan 2052 remain on track.
He said the state now monitors projects from conception to completion, with officials conducting regular inspections alongside relevant ministries, departments and agencies. Contractors’ payments are also tied to agreed project milestones.
George identified major projects including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system, Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge, Lagos Food Logistics Hub and Massey Children’s Hospital as key investments supporting mobility, healthcare, food distribution and economic productivity.
He also announced the launch of the LSDP 2052 Tracking Dashboard, which will provide real-time information on project implementation, institutional performance and development outcomes to support faster government decisions and improve service delivery.
The Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Lukman Sa’ad Olumoh, said the legislature was working with the executive to ensure projects are completed as approved and taxpayers receive value for money. He noted that the Assembly’s oversight covers both major infrastructure and community projects.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olayinka Ojo, said residents would continue to influence government spending through public consultations, while monitoring teams verify project milestones before payments are authorised.
Chairman of the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, Azeez Amusat, commended the government’s involvement of communities in project planning and monitoring, saying the approach helps ensure infrastructure addresses residents’ actual needs and meets approved standards.
