Ahead of the 2027 general election, several Lagos indigenous groups led by the Lagos State Prominent Indigenes Forum (LASPI) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a summit organised by the forum titled “Promoting Greater Participation of Lagos State Indigenes in Governance and Politics,” where participants described Tinubu as the most suitable candidate for the presidency in 2027.
The summit, held at Eko Club in Surulere, Lagos, was chaired by Dr Michael Olawale-Cole and attended by prominent Lagos indigenes, traditional leaders and representatives of indigenous associations from the five IBILE divisions of the state.
A 17-point communiqué signed by LASPI convener, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, and other stakeholders reaffirmed support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and expressed backing for his continued leadership.
Participants also called for stronger coordination among indigenous associations to promote greater participation of Lagos indigenes in governance and politics at all levels.
The summit urged indigenes to become more active in the electoral process, strengthen community participation and adopt long-term strategies to improve indigenous representation in governance.
Stakeholders further emphasised youth political awareness, civic education, cultural preservation, stronger traditional institutions and the use of digital platforms to boost engagement.
The summit concluded that the future influence and prosperity of Lagos indigenes would depend on unity, organisation and sustained involvement in governance and political processes.
