FHA acquires land in 28 states for expansion

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has secured parcels of land in 28 states as part of efforts to expand its housing footprint nationwide and improve access to affordable homes, its Executive Director of Estate Services, Ezekiel Etuk, has said.

Etuk, who represented the Managing Director of the Authority at the groundbreaking ceremony of the FHA Green City Estate in Abuja on Wednesday, said several state governments had allocated prime land to the agency and that construction activities had already commenced in some locations.

According to him, the authority has conducted groundbreaking ceremonies and begun project implementation in states including Akwa Ibom, Abia, Kaduna and Ogun, while the latest ceremony in Abuja forms part of its strategy to establish a presence across all regions of the country.

He said the agency was also undertaking reforms aimed at improving service delivery and protecting property records through digitalisation.

Etuk noted that property files had been migrated to the Galaxy Backbone platform, while efforts were underway to fully automate the authority’s operations. He added that its test laboratory had become operational to carry out geological and structural integrity assessments.

The FHA executive stated that the authority had completed and commissioned several inherited projects within the last 26 months, including a 100-unit estate in Ibadan, the FHA Expressview Estate in Lugbe, Abuja, the FHA Complex in Lugbe and the FHA Shopping Mall in Gwarinpa, despite concerns that such projects could not be salvaged.

Etuk disclosed that work was ongoing at the FHA Estate in Bwari, Abuja, comprising 336 housing units, with plans to commission the development before the end of the year. He assured prospective homeowners and investors that the authority would maintain high standards of quality assurance, transparency and accountability throughout the execution of its projects.

President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Oba Akintoye Adeoye, described the Green City Estate as evidence of the opportunities within Nigeria’s housing sector and a reflection of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Initiative. He said such projects would create jobs, stimulate ancillary industries and contribute to economic growth.

Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Permanent Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, Warren Augusta, said the project aligns with efforts to address Nigeria’s longstanding housing deficit. She conveyed the SGF’s confidence that the development would ease accommodation challenges in the Federal Capital Territory and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at expanding housing access.
