FG should curb vessel pollution

The Association of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Nigeria (ACWCN) has alerted the government of expected health hazards following the recent explosion of a floating Production,Storage and Off-Loading vessel at the Ukpokiti Terminus, Escravos, Wado City, Delta State.

The vessel contained over 50,000 barrels of crude oil. President of ACWCN, Bawo Ighomi charged the Federal Government to act fast to prevent any pollution and epidemic on people around the vicinity.

Yomi asked that relevant agencies like the National Oil Spillage Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the Federal Ministry of Environment should act fast to ensure the environment is devoid of health pollution for humans and animals.

His words: “Disturbing reports reaching us indicate that this explosion has started to show signs of wreaking health havoc on both human and domestic animals, and if nothing is done to remedy the threatening situation, it may degenerate faster.”
