FG pledges to make petrol-to-gas conversion in automobiles cheaper

The Federal Government has committed to providing financial assistance required for the conversion of automobiles from the use of petrol to the use of gas.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva explained that this move will help Nigerians manage the effects of rising petrol cost.

Punch reports Sylva’s Technical Assistant, Gas Business and Policy as saying, “This cost is for a four-cylinder. And this could go a little higher for a six-cylinder. The good thing is that it makes the car owner save running costs by 40 to 45 per cent than that of petrol.”

Speaking during an autogas dispensing station and conversion inspection exercise, which took place at the NNPC autogas dispensing facility Jahi and Autolady Garage in Abuja, Sylva pledged that the government would help make the conversion process cheaper.

He said some government official vehicles were being converted at the two conversion centres that were inspected.

On his part, the Executive Secretary, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Abdulkadir Saidu, said the government would ensure that autogas was made available to users across the country.

He said, “Nigerians can be rest assured of the government’s commitment to providing a cheaper and cleaner alternative to PMS, as prices have been on an upward climb in recent months following the deregulation of the downstream sector.
