Customs, DSS, NDLEA uncover drugs linked to terrorists hidden in machines, cylinders in Lagos Port

Law enforcement agents have uncovered the concealment of hard drug weighing 74.119 kilogramme in various components of an imported machine and cylinders at Nigeria’s largest port in Apapa, Lagos.

The drug identified as Captagon pills was uncovered on Thursday during a joint operation carried out by the operatives of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Department of State Service (DSS).

The operation was supervised by the Area Controller of Apapa Customs Command, Comptroller Malanta Ibrahim Yusuf,, Commander of NDLEA in Apapa, Mr. Samuel Bashir Gadzama and Director in charge of the DSS.

According to the Customs Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Apapa Command, Abubakar Usman, the hard drug which was ‘’carefully hidden in various components of a machine is equivalent to 451,807 tablets now packed in 18 parcels.’’

Usman, in a statement, disclosed that the drug is one of the most notorious stimulants taken by terrorists.

He said the drug and a suspect arrested in connection with the drug have been handed over to NDLEA for further analysis and interrogation.

The statement read in part: ‘’It (the drug) has been linked as one of the most notorious stimulants being The long-term use of the drug leads to remarkable side effects. The most common of them are extreme depression, lethargy, sleep deprivation (insomnia), occasional palpitation, heart and blood vessel toxicity and malnutrition .taken by insurgents in the ISIS battle and other Middle East unrest.

‘’Acting on reasonable suspicion that more of the drugs may be hidden inside various components of the machine, they continued the search on Thursday using sniffer dogs and more personnel which led to more discoveries.”
