The Ondo State Police Command and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have increased security operations across the state as schools reopen for the new academic session.
The two agencies have deployed personnel to schools and other strategic locations to prevent criminal activities and provide a safe environment for students, teachers and other members of the school community.
The police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said tactical personnel had been deployed across the state, while patrols, visibility policing and intelligence-led operations had also been intensified around schools. He added that the School Protection Squad had been adequately deployed to provide security coverage.
Abayomi urged parents and guardians to educate children on basic safety measures, while advising school owners and administrators to promptly report suspicious persons or activities. He also asked students to avoid isolated routes, reject lifts from strangers and report security concerns to trusted adults or security agencies.
The police assured parents, teachers and school administrators that the command would remain vigilant and respond promptly to emerging threats throughout the academic session. Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu also wished students a safe and successful academic year.
Amotekun State Commander Adetunji Adeleye said the corps had concluded arrangements to protect school communities, with particular attention to border communities, isolated locations and other areas considered vulnerable. He said the state government had directed adequate deployment to schools in such locations.
Adeleye added that buses conveying students in vulnerable areas would receive security protection. He urged school administrators to familiarise themselves with the corps’ emergency distress line, 0807 999 99 89, and called on parents, residents and school authorities to report suspicious movements that could threaten students and staff.
