Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to reject hatred, division and intolerance as Muslims across the country commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Maulud.
In a message marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Shettima said Nigerians should renew their commitment to peace, compassion and service to humanity.
The Vice President said the Prophet’s life offered enduring lessons in mercy, humility, justice, patience and fairness, which citizens should reflect in their relationships and everyday conduct.
He said the values were particularly important at a time when Nigerians needed to look beyond their religious, ethnic and social differences and work collectively towards a peaceful and prosperous country.
Shettima described Nigeria’s diversity as one of its greatest strengths, stressing the need to build a nation where people of different faiths and backgrounds could live together in peace, dignity and mutual respect.
He also urged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Maulud celebration to support vulnerable people, reach out to those in need and demonstrate greater kindness to their neighbours and communities.
The Vice President said the true spirit of the occasion went beyond remembering the Prophet’s birth and should be reflected in following his example of compassion and service. He prayed for lasting peace, prosperity and divine guidance for Nigeria and its citizens.
