Sanwo-Olu Backs Hamzat After Lagos APC Governorship Primary Victory

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

In a statement released on Friday after the conclusion of the party’s direct primary election held across Lagos on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat’s victory as a reflection of the confidence and trust party members and Lagos residents have placed in his leadership.

The governor praised APC members for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the primary process, commending their loyalty, unity, and commitment to the party.

“On behalf of my family, I congratulate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the standard bearer of our great party, the APC, in next year’s governorship election in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He added that Hamzat’s vision for Lagos would contribute to the continued growth and development of the state and benefit residents across different sectors.

Sanwo-Olu also noted that the strong turnout of party members at polling centres during the primary election reflected widespread support for Hamzat and confidence in his ability to build on the achievements of the current administration.

The governor urged APC members to remain united and committed as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party still had significant work ahead.

Hamzat’s emergence as APC candidate positions him as the party’s flagbearer in the race to succeed Sanwo-Olu and lead Lagos State after the expiration of the current administration’s tenure in 2027.
