President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stressed that development must be visible and meaningful to citizens as he inaugurated major infrastructure projects in Lagos during his two-day working visit.
Among the projects unveiled was the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, a 5.04-kilometre transport corridor designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of the city. The President described the bridge as a critical enabler of economic growth, noting that efficient transportation directly boosts productivity and quality of life.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said Lagos continues to set the pace in infrastructure delivery, demonstrating resilience in the face of rapid urbanisation. He added that the state’s progress reflects a deliberate commitment to people-centred governance.
The President also commissioned the Lagos Geographic Information System Building and a multi-agency administrative complex in Alausa, Ikeja. He noted that the projects highlight the growing role of technology and data in modern governance, particularly in land administration and public service delivery.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the projects were designed to address key challenges in mobility, land management, and institutional coordination. He explained that the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would significantly reduce traffic along the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor while improving commuting efficiency.
Sanwo-Olu added that the bridge incorporates modern features such as pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered streetlights, and a stormwater management system to tackle flooding in surrounding areas. He described the LAGIS building as a major step towards a fully digitised land administration system that enhances transparency and ease of doing business.
The governor also noted that the newly inaugurated administrative complex, named after President Tinubu, was built to improve coordination among government agencies and enhance service delivery through a more integrated system.
Tinubu commended the state government for sustaining infrastructure development and urged other states to adopt similar approaches, emphasising that strategic investments remain essential for economic growth and improved living standards.
