The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to deport at least 124 Nigerians listed among what it described as the “worst of the worst” criminal aliens currently in the country.
According to a statement published by the DHS, the affected Nigerians are part of a broader immigration enforcement exercise targeting foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes. While the agency released their names and photographs, it did not specify when the deportations would take place or the individual offences committed.
The DHS said the action aligns with President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda, stating that deportation efforts are beginning with offenders considered the most serious.
The published list includes more than 120 Nigerians, among them Sunday Adediora, Sunday Kunkushi, Marcus Unigwe, Emmanuel Mayegun Adeola, Joshua Ineh, Kingsley Ariegwe, Chukwuemeka Okorie, Elizabeth Adeshewo, Oluwaseun Kassim and several others.
This is the second major deportation announcement involving Nigerians this year. In February 2026, the DHS disclosed plans to deport 79 Nigerians convicted of crimes including fraud, drug trafficking, robbery, assault and manslaughter.
Nigeria has also faced tighter immigration measures from the United States in recent months. In June, the US imposed partial visa restrictions on Nigerian citizens, citing concerns over identity management, information sharing, visa overstay rates and security screening.
The latest deportation plan forms part of the Trump administration’s intensified crackdown on undocumented immigrants with criminal convictions following his return to office in January 2025.
