UK Hails Tinubu Reforms, Backs Nigeria

The United Kingdom has praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing Nigeria’s ongoing recovery as a success story that other countries can learn from.

UK National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, made the remarks at the opening of the fourth UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue in Abuja.

Powell acknowledged that the reforms had involved difficult decisions but said they were beginning to produce visible gains in economic growth and recovery.

He described Nigeria as an African superpower whose influence and strategic importance would continue to expand because of its population, capabilities and economic potential.

The UK official said Britain regarded Nigeria as its foremost partner in Africa and was committed to building a mature relationship based on shared objectives, mutual respect and practical outcomes.

Powell also commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity and reaffirmed the UK’s support for cybersecurity, intelligence sharing and information resilience initiatives.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to human rights, democratic governance and the rule of law, stressing that sustainable security depends on strong institutions, public trust and collective action against emerging threats.
