Police Bust Imo Robbery Ring, Recover 450 Stolen Motorcycles

The Imo State Police Command has dismantled a robbery syndicate and recovered 450 motorcycles believed to have been stolen across the state.

Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye disclosed that five suspects were arrested during the operation, which also led to the recovery of N6.4 million in cash and several vehicle number plates.

The breakthrough followed an investigation triggered by the disappearance of a commercial driver, who was later found unconscious after being attacked and robbed of his vehicle.

According to the police, detectives tracked the stolen vehicle to a workshop in Orlu, where two suspects were first arrested while allegedly attempting to repaint the bus to conceal its identity. Their arrest led to the capture of three additional members of the gang.

Authorities said the suspects attempted to bribe officers with N5 million, but the offer was rejected.

Further searches uncovered charms and other incriminating items, while the recovered motorcycles were reportedly hidden in bushes. The suspects were unable to provide proof of ownership.

The police said all those arrested will face prosecution, reaffirming their commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state.
