Illegal miners, dredgers will face sanction

The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiola Olowu, has said it will not be business as usual for illegal miners.

He spoke when he visited several dredging, mining, toll and revenue sites to tackle illegalities in the sector.

Deputy Director (Public Affairs) in the ministry, Mrs Adetola Idowu, in a statement, noted that during the visit miners were told to obey dredging and mining guidelines.

She quoted Olowu as saying anyone violating the guidelines would be sanctioned.

Olowu appealed to dredgers and miners to obtain permits and regularise their operations, it said.

“Dredging, Mining, Toll-fee and Revenue points activities are no longer business as usual as the Office of Mineral Resources will enforce laws…”
