Flood: One dead in Anambra building collapse

One person has been reported dead in a building collapse caused by a flood at Enugu-Otu in Aguleri, Anambra State.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Acting State Coordinator, Mr. Thickman Tanimu, announced this while addressing reporters yesterday.

The NEMA official explained that the deceased, identified as Ginikanwa Izuoba, died when the flood pushed down his apartment while he was inside.

He said 651,053 persons were rendered homeless by the raging water in six local government areas of the state.

Tamanu added that Ogbaru Local Government Area recorded the highest number of victims, followed by Anambra East and West local government areas.

In Yobe State, the government has directed the immediate evacuation of User and Gasma communities in Bade and Karasuwa local government areas to avert displacement of the residents by threatening floods.

In Nasarawa State, the Federal Government and the state have donated relief materials to victims of the flood at Tunga in the Awe Local Government Area.
