FG, Twitter begin talks to suspend ban

The Federal Government and Twitter have commenced negotiations toward lifting the suspension of the microblogging platform.

The Nation reports that a source within the presidency disclosed that the suspension will be lifted when all the issues have been resolved.

The source was quoted to have said: “I can confirm to you that the engagement between the Federal government and Twitter management has commenced.”

On when the suspension will be lifted, the source said: “That would be when all the issues of the dispute have been properly trashed out.”

Recall that the Federal Government on June 4 suspended Twitter indefinitely, drawing condemnation from Nigerians and the international community.

The Federal Government cited the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as the reason for the decision.
